چکیده

A mapping approach is proposed for the numerical simulation of distributive mixing in threedimensional laminar flows. The technique is based on a spatially discretized description of the locally averaged concentration of fluid components in the mixture (so called “coarse grain density”) and a distribution matrix that describes the changes in component concentration. It is a generalization of a previously developed two-dimensional technique. The proposed method allows to quickly predict the mixing performance and compare the efficiency of a large number of different mixing protocols. To evaluate the technique a prototype flow in a cubic cavity, generated by sliding opposite walls is used.

Investigation of electrokinetic mixing in 3D non-homogenous microchannels

A numerical study of 3D electrokinetic flows through micromixers was performed. The micromixers considered here consisted of heterogeneous rectangular microchannels with prescribed patterns of zeta-potential at their walls. Numerical simulation of electroosmotic flows within heterogeneous channels requires solution of the Navier-Stokes, Ernest-Plank and species concentration equations. It is kn...

Influence of initial conditions on distributive mixing in a twin flight single screw extruder

Passive advection of light particles carried by a high viscosity fluid in polymer processing equipment exhibits complex behavior due in part to the non-linearity of the equation of motion. The particles motion also exhibits sensitivity to the initial positions. A fundamental understanding of the influence of initial positions of particles on the quality and rate of distributive mixing is essent...

Analysis and Optimization of Kenics Static Mixers

The mapping approach is applied to study the distributive mixing in the, widely industrially used, Kenics static mixer. The flexibility of the mapping method makes it possible to study and compare thousands of different mixer layouts and perform optimization with respect to macroscopic homogenization efficiency and interface generation. In the paper two different designs of the mixer are invest...

Chaotic mixing analyses by distribution matrices

Distributive fluid mixing in laminar flows is studied using the concept of concentration distribution mapping matrices, which is based on the original ideas of Spencer & Wiley [1], describing the evolution of the composition of two fluids of identical viscosity with no interfacial tension. The flow domain is divided into cells, and large-scale variations in composition are tracked by following ...
